Sea and style…

The stylish seaside city of Brighton is one of the liveliest and exciting in Britain. Apart from the obvious attraction of the beach, it offers attractive Regency architecture, a thriving arts scene, countless pubs and restaurants, the wildest nightclubs outside London, excellent shopping and the Palace Pier.

Brighton’s Royal Pavilion was the seaside fantasy palace of King George IV when he was Prince Regent. Built in 1787 to hold sumptuous summer parties by the sea, it combines an Indian mogul exterior with an exotic Chinese interior. The Brighton Museum & Art Gallery features an unusual collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco furniture – the most famous piece being Salvador Dali’s sofa in the shape of a mouth. Stroll along the lively beachfront dotted with cafés and bars. If you’re feeling energetic there’s no shortage of beachfront activities – play volleyball on the beach, go rollerblading, try your hand at windsurfing, waterskiing or parasailing. The Palace Pier houses a funfair, food stalls and hundreds of slot machines.

If in need of some retail therapy, head for the 17th century Lanes and shop for antiques, jewellery, clothes and designer goods. Browse for bargains in the bohemian North Laine which has literally hundreds of shops in an area of less than a mile. Brighton is packed with interesting restaurants. Head for the Lanes and Preston Street for a wide choice of places to eat or simply have fish and chips by the pier. With a wealth of theatres and arts venues, pubs on every corner, and excellent nightclubs, you certainly won’t be short on evening entertainment!
